Dear international students,

have you ever heard of Weimar? If not, it’s time for you to get to know it with us, as it’s far more than just a little town in Thuringia. And if you have read about it, we are sure you are already on the edge of your seat to go explore it!

Just a 90 minute train ride from Halle, Weimar offers you art, history and literature, all in one day. It’s not only home to the Bauhaus University which unites art, architecture and design, but also one of the places where Goethe and Schiller, Germany’s most famous poets, spent a large part of their lives. Its old buildings, like the national theatre, and little parks will definitely leave a lasting impression on you, just like it’s rich and often terrifying history from World War 2.

If you are interested in getting to know Weimar and the German past a little better, join our day trip to Weimar on Sunday, July 5! We will meet in front of the Hauptbahnhof at 8.50am to take the train together!

Once in the city, we will do a guided tour to show you all of Weimar’s cultural variety from art to literature. Don’t worry if you are not an expert of the German language yet, the tour will be in English.
After the sightseeing, you have two choices: Either you stay in the city center to enjoy some free time and maybe visit one of the museums (Schiller-Haus, Anna-Amalia-Bibliothek, Bauhaus…) or you can visit the concentration camp Buchenwald with us. There will be no tour here, so that you are free to learn about World War 2 history in your own pace. For those who like background information, an audio guide is available.
The end of the trip will be marked by a nice dinner in a typical Thuringian restaurant!
